When i think about what keeps me together as a person, it really does have everything to do with the people i rely on. My parents and friends are largely what kept me comfortable enough for a long time to create, even while going through my illnesses, most recently a bout with AIHA – which took my Spleen in 2006. They were a constant comfort to me. Reason to live was interaction through them, and they with me. In 2009 my dad became suddenly incomprehensible with what was later discovered to be an Encephalitis that took his life in November of that year. This album chronicles my sudden break with him, to moving on my own (starting with the track ‘Back 2,1′) i pushed through the grief and wrote for him, covering a sort of chiming Bach air-on-a string line with a heavy Detroit glitch backbeat that i know he would love. Melody has a way of telling a story, and this song was written with that thought in mind. The album is a blueprint for how we can go through things and grow stronger as a result, that the old cliche of tempered steel through flames can have relevance today, and be musical even in the process – halfway through production, I had another big move back to my mother’s house and finished the album in the room i grew up in, albeit with gear i never imagined i’d have around me and with soundproofing on the walls. The result is an album i’m proud to have endured, and proud to explain to you the process. To reorder yourself is to remove your stability, to reorder ourselves altogether we have to allow the collapse to happen.

Phylum Sinter is the musical alias of 33 year old Christopher Todd, of Detroit. The name means a set of species intended to be used as fuel. Since 2002 he has been involved in the leftfield electronic scene, having cut his teeth on numerous netlabels (Post Under, Crazy Language, Xynthetic) and releasing albums on n5md digital imprint Enpeg (the album ‘From Unity To Segmentation’ released in 2009) and MMR (‘Detroit Nocturnes’, released in 2010) and Hopskotch Records (‘Esc’, released in 2013). His style combines heavy love of DSP and modular synthesis systems and software generation with Detroit Techno and early IDM melodic sensibilities.
